Government Shutdown Update
Over the holiday weekend, AFAS provided $1 million in 0% interest loans to service members when a lapse in military pay appeared imminent. With the October 15 paychecks now expected, we remain optimistic that funding will resume. However, If the shutdown continues and the next pay period is affected, we will once again be ready to help.
There are no credit checks, no command involvement, and no fees – just quick, confidential support when it’s needed most.
We also encourage service members to contact their financial institutions. Many banks and credit unions offer no-interest loans or paycheck protection programs during government shutdowns (though some may require registration or enrollment to access these benefits).

$58K Raised to Honor 78 Years of Service
Thanks to your generosity and the support of our matching partner, First Command Financial Services, we raised a total of more than $58K during this year’s Air Force Birthday Campaign to celebrate its 78th birthday!
Every dollar provides meaningful support to Airmen, Guardians, and their families in times of need. Together, we continue to build resilience and readiness across the Force. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and celebrated this milestone with us! And a special thank you to First Command for their $25K match.
Connecting at the AFA Conference
The AFAS team was honored to exhibit at this year’s Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) Air, Space & Cyber Conference, held September 22–24 at National Harbor, MD.
We connected directly with Airmen, Guardians, and partners across the industry, sharing updates about our expanded programs and hearing firsthand how AFAS continues to make a difference. We were proud to stand alongside our fellow charities, Blue Skies of Texas, The LeMay Foundation, and the Air Force Enlisted Village, all working together to take care of those who serve.
Board Updates and Remembrance
This month, we reflect on moments of both loss and gratitude within our Board of Trustees community.
General David Allvin Retirement
We celebrate General Allvin on his retirement as the 23rd Chief of Staff of the Air Force. We thank General Allvin for his decades of inspiring leadership and for his service on our Board where he helped guide our mission.
Thank You – Gina Allvin
A special thank you to Mrs. Allvin for her service on the Board as well, and her leadership in championing the Air & Space Forces Charity Gala. We wish her and her husband the very best in their next chapter.
Remembrance – Katy Flosi
We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Katy Flosi, beloved wife of CMSAF David Flosi, mother, and a valued member of the AFAS Board. Her kindness, insight, and devotion to Air and Space Force families will be profoundly missed. Our hearts remain with the Flosi family during this difficult time.
Did You Know – AFAS Can Help with Food Purchases
Food insecurity can affect anyone, and no family should have to worry about putting food on the table. AFAS can assist with food purchases as a temporary solution to help families through challenging times and ensure essential nutrition for themselves and their children.
This assistance is available to Active Duty, Active Guard Reserve (AGR), Title 10/32 Guard and Reserve, Traditional Guard/Reserve, Retirees, and Widow(er)s.
We encourage those in need to connect with their local Military & Family Readiness Center or visit afas.org for more information or to apply for assistance.
Supporting Organization Spotlight – Northrop Grumman
We are proud to recognize Northrop Grumman for their generous $100,000 grant supporting our child care assistance initiatives. This investment helps AFAS provide vital resources to Airmen, Guardians, and families who need help balancing mission demands with family care responsibilities.
We’re grateful for their partnership and continued commitment to improving the quality of life for our military families.
Financial Readiness – Plan with Purpose
October is Financial Planning Month, a perfect time to take stock of your financial goals and make sure your plans align with your values. Whether you’re updating beneficiaries, exploring workplace giving, or considering a legacy gift, every step can strengthen your financial future – and if you choose – support Airmen and Guardian families in times of need.
