Veterans Day 2025 – Honoring All Who Served

Behind every veteran is a story of courage, sacrifice, and service. This Veterans Day, honor their legacy by supporting Airmen and Guardians who continue to serve with that same commitment.

Your generosity ensures our Airmen, Guardians, and their families never face life’s challenges alone.

Make a gift today! Text AFASVET to 44834 or visit our website.

Food Assistance & Financial Support During Government Shutdown

During a government shutdown, we remain committed to supporting Airmen, Guardians, and their families who are impacted. Available assistance includes:

  • SNAP & WIC Support
AFAS provides food grants for eligible Airmen and Guardian families who may have missed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) payments. Applicants can apply online at www.afas.org and need to select “Basic Living Expenses” and then “Food” in the application portal.
  • Pay Gap Assistance
If paychecks are affected, AFAS provides no-fee, no-interest loans to help bridge the gap. These application requests have no command involvement and no credit check.
  • Other Support Available
We continue to accept applications for Emergency Travel, Rent or Mortgage Assistance, Vehicle Repair, Child Care Assistance, and more.

For the latest updates, follow us on social media or visit www.afas.org.

AFAS in Action – Events & Outreach

Over the past month, we engaged with service members, partners, and communities to strengthen our shared mission.

  • MOAA TotalForce+ Conference
In late October we exhibited at this inaugural conference and were honored to receive the Gen. Walter “Skip” Sharp Award for Patriotic Service, accepted by our CEO, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Ed Thomas. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and to the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) for their continued partnership and recognition!
  • JBAB Government Shutdown Fair
On November 4, one of our Financial Assistance Caseworkers joined other organizations at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, connecting with service members and offering guidance to those affected by the shutdown.
  • CEO Base Visit – Dyess AFB
Our CEO visited Dyess AFB on November 5-6, home of the 7th Bomb Wing and 317th Airlift Wing, spending time with the incredible Airmen and families serving under challenging conditions. Thank you, Team Dyess, for your dedication and resilience!

We’re grateful for every opportunity to connect face-to-face with the people we serve and the partners who help us make an impact every day.

Board Updates – Thank you Chief Flosi & Welcome CSAF & CMSAF

Retirement – CMSAF David Flosi
AFAS congratulates Chief Flosi on his retirement as the 20th Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force (CMSAF). We wish him well in his well-earned retirement and thank him for his leadership on our Board and steadfast commitment to our Airmen and Guardian families.

Welcome New Members
We proudly welcome Gen. Ken Wilsbach, newly confirmed as the 24th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force (CSAF), and his wife Cindy, to our Board of Trustees. We also welcome the 21st CMSAF Dave Wolfe, and his wife Dr. Doniel Wolfe.

We look forward to working with Gen. Wilsbach and Chief Wolfe as they lead our Air and Space Forces and strengthen our shared mission.

Did You Know – Recipients Can Track Application & Loan Details Online

We’ve made it easier for those who have applied or received assistance to stay up to date on their account. They can now view real-time updates directly in the Application Portal:

  • My Applications – Check the status of an application and see where it is in the process.
  • My Loans and Grants – View details about an existing grant or loan, including repayment start and end dates, repayment amount, and remaining balance due.

For application status questions or loan details, we encourage service members to explore these new features online. This helps us process new requests as efficiently as possible.

Supporting Organization Spotlight – Rolls-Royce

We’re proud to spotlight Rolls-Royce, a returning corporate partner whose recent grant supports our mission to help Airmen, Guardians, and their families overcome financial challenges.

We thank them for their renewed partnership and commitment to those who serve.
