Did You Know – AFAS Can Help During PCS

A Permanent Change of Station (PCS) can be one of the most stressful parts of military life. Beyond the physical move, a PCS often brings unexpected expenses, family disruption, housing delays, and the emotional toll of starting over.

AFAS understands not every PCS move is the same, and we’re here to help relieve financial pressure when it arises. Two important ways we support families during PCS include:

Rent & Deposit Assistance
Sometimes, dislocation allowances or advance pay aren’t enough – especially when faced with prolonged temporary lodging, car repairs, or large out-of-pocket housing costs. AFAS may assist with rent and/or deposits at the new duty station to ease this financial burden.

Child Care Assistance
Moving with children adds another layer of complexity. AFAS can help cover the cost of short-term childcare (up to $1,000 per family) while packing, in transit, or getting settled at the new location. Learn more about our Child Care for PCS program here.

Families facing PCS-related financial challenges should reach out to AFAS, because while PCS is part of military life, facing it alone doesn’t have to be!

Campaign to Connect – JBAB Visit

On May 6, members of the AFAS team, including our CEO, Maj. Gen (Ret.) Ed Thomas, visited Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling as part of our Campaign to Connect initiative. From observing impressive trainings by the Honor Guard and Drill Team to enjoying music from the U.S. Air Force Band, it was a powerful reminder of the excellence and pride within our Air and Space Forces.

The team concluded the day with a visit to the Military & Family Readiness Center, where we shared updates about new and upcoming AFAS programs – and, more importantly, listened to their feedback on how we can better serve our Airmen, Guardians, and their families.

Air Force Assistance Fund (AFAF) – Still Time to Give

The 2025 AFAF campaign is in full swing – and there’s still time to make a difference! Now in its 52nd year and running through mid-June, this campaign is the only Department fundraising effort For Airmen & Guardians, By Airmen & Guardians.

Join the drive today! Visit: AFAssistanceFund.org or text AFAF to 50155.

Every dollar raised directly supports Air Force Aid Society, helping us provide financial assistance to Airmen, Guardians, and their families when they need it most! Donations aren’t just contributions – they’re lifelines.

Together we can help take care of our own!

New Partners Page on AFAS.ORG

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new Partners Page on our website. This dedicated space recognizes the incredible corporate, nonprofit, and mission-aligned partners who help power our impact.

This page is more than a list – it’s a growing network of support. And each month we highlight one special partner to give them the recognition they deserve. See the organizations standing with our Airmen, Guardians, and their families.

Event Highlights – Building Stronger Financial Futures

AFAS was honored to participate in two recent events with our fellow relief organizations – Army Emergency Relief (AER), Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA), and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS):

CISCO Roundtable Webinar – Supporting the Military Relief Organizations
On May 2, all four CEOs joined a panel discussion hosted by CISCO U.S. Public Sector CX to share our vital roles in supporting service members and their families. We’re especially grateful to Cisco for matching employee donations and making an additional gift for every attendee.

Addressing Financial Needs of Military Families (Washington, DC)
On May 8, all four relief organizations joined the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) and Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) for powerful conversations on how we can strengthen the financial well-being of our military families. And thanks to funding from NFCU, we can expand our reach and impact more lives.

We’re grateful for these opportunities and excited to keep working together!

Supporting Organization Spotlight – Sandboxx

We’re proud to collaborate with Sandboxx, a company that helps to enrich the lives of military members and their families through innovative technology and engaging content. Together, we’re sending key AFAS resources to trainees and their supporters during Basic Military Training – making sure they know help is available.

Powering Impact Together

The support of our generous donors, corporate partners and community fuels every emergency grant, scholarship, and child care program we offer. As we reflect on recent events, we’re deeply grateful to everyone who makes our mission possible. Thank you for standing with us and with those who serve!
