Middle East Evacuation Assistance Available

Airmen, Guardians, and their families affected by evacuation requirements in the Middle East may apply for financial assistance through AFAS. We will work directly with those families impacted by evacuations from Air Force installations, U.S. Embassies and Consulates, and other affected areas.
Assistance can help cover essential needs as families navigate the challenges that follow an evacuation.

AFAS is also working closely with the other Military Aid Societies — Army Emergency Relief (AER), Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA), and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). Through these partnerships, eligible service members may receive assistance from a nearby sister-service aid
office if needed.

We remain committed to standing beside our military service members and their families wherever they serve.

AFAS Turns 84: A Legacy of Caring for Our Force

Yesterday, March 9, AFAS proudly marked its 84 th birthday. When our founders, General Hap and Bee Arnold, created the organization, they did so to address the ongoing needs of our service members and their families. More than eight decades later, we continue to honor that mission and remain committed to supporting Airmen, Guardians, and their families for generations to come.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are grateful to everyone who supports this mission and helps ensure our Airmen and Guardian families never face a moment of crisis alone.

Partnerships in Action: Two Airmen Receive Vehicles

Partnerships make a powerful difference for military families.

In late February, the National Auto Body Council (NABC) hosted a Recycled Rides event in partnership with the Crozat Family Foundation and USAA. Through this program, refurbished vehicles are donated to deserving members of the community.

Two Airmen nominated by AFAS were selected and received vehicles:

  • TSgt Paola – 2024 Honda CR-V
  • SSgt Pascale – 2022 Kia Soul

These vehicles provide reliable transportation and help strengthen long-term financial stability for these Airmen and their families. We are grateful to these partners for helping make opportunities like this possible.

Spouses – CSU Scholarship Applications Due March 31

Eligible spouses of Airmen and Guardians interested in advancing their education and career goals are encouraged to apply for the Columbia Southern University (CSU) Scholarship before the March 31, 2026 deadline.

This scholarship provides is an opportunity for spouses to receive a full CSU scholarship covering up to 60 credit hours toward an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree through their online program.

Did You Know – AFAS Can Help After Personal Disasters

Unexpected personal disasters can turn life upside down.

House fires, flooding, gas leaks, and other devastating damage can create sudden financial hardship for military families. AFAS provides immediate financial assistance to help eligible Airmen, Guardians, and their families cover essential needs and regain stability after these types of events.

Support is available for Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Retirees, and Widows.

Supporting Organization Spotlight – Mercy Medical Angels

This month, we recognize Mercy Medical Angels, a partner who helps ensure Airmen, Guardians, and their families can access critical medical care when travel and cost become barriers.

Through this partnership, eligible service members and their families receive free transportation assistance to get to essential medical appointments, including PTS/TBI Treatment, rehabilitation, counseling, and other specialized care. Transportation assistance includes gas cards, bus and train
tickets, volunteer pilots, and commercial airline flights.

We are grateful for their continued support. To learn more, visit: www.mercymedical.org/patients

Giving Through a Donor Advised Fund

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) can be a simple and flexible way to support the causes and organizations you care about, including AFAS.

With a DAF, donors make a charitable contribution to a sponsoring organization and may receive an income tax deduction in the year the gift is made. The funds can then be distributed over time by recommending grants to nonprofit organizations. This flexibility allows donors to make one larger contribution to their DAF and recommend grants to their favorite charities over time.
