PCS Support Reminders – Child Care, Pet & Vehicle Transportation

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves can bring logistical difficulties, physical and emotional strain, and unexpected costs for military families. AFAS can help ease some of the financial stress related to these moves.

Here’s how we can help:

  • Child Care for PCS – We offer $200 per dependent (up to $1,000 per family) to help with temporary child care expenses. Approved funds are sent directly to the service member via ACH or Zelle.
  • Pet PCS Transportation – Because pets are family too, AFAS offers interest-free loans to help cover out-of-pocket transportation costs for a dog or cat.
  • Vehicle Shipping – If the new duty station is more than 350 miles away, we provide interest-free loans to help ship one personal vehicle.

Spouses – Money for Job Training & School

Spouses of Airmen and Guardians looking to start a new career or continue their education may be eligible for tuition assistance. Our “Bee” Arnold Spouse Tuition Program provides up to $2,500 to help pay for short-term job training, certifications, or part-time undergraduate degrees.

This program is open to spouses of U.S. Air Force and Space Force members on active-duty, Title 10 Reserve and Guard on extended active duty, and Title 32 Guard performing full-time active duty.

We understand the sacrifices military spouses face. Pursuing their education and career goals shouldn’t be one of them.

For those interested in adopting a child, AFAS may be able to help ease the financial burden associated with the process.

Event Highlights – AFSA Summit and M&FRC Training

Recently, AFAS was honored to participate in two events where we were able to personally connect and share our mission:

  • Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) Summit 2025
We exhibited at this conference on July 18-20, and engaged with many attendees, including service members, event organizers and fellow exhibitors. These interactions helped raise awareness and build valuable relationships.
  • M&FRC National Guard Training
On July 24,we participated in a National Guard Bureau-hosted training at Andrews AFB. Our Education and Programs teams engaged directly with M&FRC Program Managers from across the 54 states and territories to highlight the services available for Guard members and their families.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to connect, listen, and share how AFAS is supporting the evolving needs of military families.

Supporting Organization Spotlight – The Bob Woodruff Foundation

We’re proud to highlight The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) – a valued partner dedicated to helping veterans, service members, and their families build stable and successful futures.

As part of a multi-year initiative with Navy Federal Credit Union and the other military relief organizations, BWF plays an integral role in helping us expand our reach and impact. Most recently, BWF provided emergency funding to help Airmen and Guardians impacted by the Texas floods in early July. Their exceptional team is also active in partnering with us and providing trusted advice and counsel as leaders in the military non-profit community.

We’re grateful for their shared commitment to recovery and resilience. Thank you BWF Team!
